How to Use the Law of Assumption & Why it Works

The law of assumption is a powerful manifestation tool that when used correctly can lead to healing, transformation and can ultimately change your life. There are many misconceptions about this law, mostly because it doesn't work as easily as it sounds. Let's explore why and how it all works;

What is the Law of Assumption?

The Law of Assumption is a manifestation technique that basically states that whatever you “assume” to be true will become your reality.

It's a concept that was first derived by American philosopher Neville Goddard. Like the law of attraction, the law of assumption requires you to delve into the deep belief systems of your subconscious mind.

You can't simply say “I assume ‘x' is going to happen”. You sincerely have to match the vibrational energy of the feeling and believe your assumption to be true. Goddard explains that everything outside of our consciousness is simply a projection of our internal minds.

So to change the outside world, you first have to conquer the inner-workings of your subconscious mind. This is a little complex, but let's explain a little further.

How Does the Law of Assumption Work?

Not all of your assumptions are conscious. The law of assumption only works to positively manifest if your subconscious assumptions are positive. The subconscious mind plays a huge role here, it's the part of the brain that works without us needing to consciously think about it.

Have you ever been in your car, reached your destination and thought, “I don't even really remember how I got here”. Essentially, your subconscious mind took the wheel (pun intended). The subconscious mind also happens to store all of your memories, beliefs, values, past experiences and trauma. It stores the programming that affects all of your decision-making and assumptions without you even realising it.

We start to establish our subconscious programming from the ages of 0-7 years old. During this time, both hemispheres of the brain are firing and absorbing everything around us like a sponge.

This is where we start to become conditioned by our families, schools, religious beliefs and society. Through this conditioning, we begin to develop our own personal identity or “Ego”. By the time you reach 8 years old the majority of your assumptions and belief systems are deeply ingrained in the subconscious mind and will continue to affect your behaviour into adulthood.

Law of Assumption Example

Person A grew up with a highly anxious dad. His dad didn't allow him to explore or test his boundaries. He was constantly afraid and telling his son to “stop doing that” or to “watch out and be careful”.

By observing his dad's behaviour, Person A grew up with the belief that trying new things is scary and wrong. As an adult, person A struggles to put himself out there, he's very shy, timid and nervous.

This all goes back to the subconscious programming that Person A learnt from his dad between the ages of 0-7 years old. Person A has never thought to question his self-limiting beliefs because this has “always been his personality”.

Neville Goddard would say that Person A can't yet manifest with the law of assumption because his belief systems are based in fear and anxiety. If person A tries to assume something like, “I'm going to get a promotion at work”, his subconscious mind will most likely be ticking in the background creating fear and doubt.  Our brains are constantly making assumptions without us even noticing.

These assumptions form the basis of our beliefs and can ultimately determine our actions. So how does Person A begin to reprogram and shift his mindset?

Shifting Your Subconscious Programming

In order to use the law of assumption to your advantage, you have to start shifting the assumptions that you have on the world and yourself. If you have any self-limiting beliefs then the law of assumption simply won't work for you.

There are many ways to work on the subconscious mind to clear negative belief systems and past trauma, these include; meditation, breathwork, unblocking your chakras, using affirmations, working on your greater awareness, therapy and more. On average it takes at least 30 days to start to feel any shifts in your subconscious programming and for some much longer.

Working through this programming takes time, patience and most importantly, practice. Once you've worked through these limiting beliefs you're ready to use the law of assumption to manifest your desired reality.

4 Tips on How To Use the Law of Assumption

1. Decide What You Want

Clarity on what you actually desire is very powerful. You might have an idea of this ‘perfect life' that you envision, but how did you get there? What were the steps? What do you actually want?

Once you make a clear cut decision on what you want, you will begin to create a subconscious mind map toward creating that reality.

Make a decision on what you'd like to manifest, write it down, include as much detail as you can so that you can picture that reality clearly in your mind. The more specific you are about your desires, the easier it will be to vibrationally match the feeling of having it.

By making this clear decision you're giving your subconscious mind new guidelines and showing it where to focus energy.

2. Commit to Your Decision

Commit to the decision you've made. If you're still hearing negative chatter in your subconscious like; "this will never happen” or “I'm kidding myself”, then your self-limiting beliefs will block you from using the law of assumption.

It's not only about making the decision, it's about believing that the assumption will happen without any doubt.

This may be a struggle in the beginning, but the more aware you are of the subconscious programming that's holding you back, the more you can work through it.

As mentioned, if you're struggling with this, using techniques like meditation, breathwork or positive affirmations may help to promote this belief further.

3. Immerse Yourself in the Feeling of Attaining Your Desire

You must immerse yourself in the feeling that you already have what you desire. This will help to vibrationally align you with the feeling that you are trying to attain and train your subconscious to feel abundance and happiness.
You are essentially shifting your internal feelings about life which will effect your brain chemistry. If you're imagining your desired reality but feeling depressed or fearful at the same time, you're not vibrationally aligned with that feeling.

You have to tap into the abundance and happiness you'd feel if you already attained your desires. Use your imagination to create the most vivid realisation of your desires as possible. Visualise how having what you want would make you feel and sit in that feeling for as long as you can.

4. Assume it to be True

Once you have made your decision, committed to it, visualised and adopted how it feels you should be more vibrationally aligned with your assumption. Assume your desires are already true and let go.

You are beginning to create a new map for your subconscious thoughts. If you can cultivate the feeling of your desire, you will begin to shift your internal state and physically project your reality.

When doubt or fear begin to seep in, it means that there is still some work to do to reprogram your subconscious mind.

Law of Assumption Affirmations

If you are struggling to shift your subconscious programming then affirmations may help. By repeating positive statements about what you want to achieve, you can train your mind to believe in your goal and take steps toward making it a reality. Again, this may be a struggle to begin with, whilst stating the affirmations try to also feel the emotion of believe it.

With enough practice, anyone can harness the power of the law of assumption and create the life they've always wanted. Use affirmations like the following for 30 days before setting your intention and using the law of assumption:

  1. I am the creator of my reality
  2. I am the author of my destiny
  3. I am in control of my thoughts
  4. I am manifesting my desires
  5. I am positive and welcome positive outcomes
  6. I deserve to be happy
  7. I deserve to receive my desires
  8. I receive what I believe
  9. I pursue my goals with passion
  10. Everything I desire simply comes to me

Final Thoughts:

Our brains are constantly making assumptions based on our subconscious programming. These assumptions form the basis of our beliefs and can ultimately determine our actions. The law of assumption suggests that our consciousness determines our reality. The subconscious mind, however, is a huge part in sabotaging our desires.

If you are living with self-limiting beliefs like; fear, anxiety, depression, shyness or doubt then your dominant assumption would be that you cannot manifest your reality. Once you have worked through all of your subconscious trauma and cleared limiting beliefs, you're ready to use the law of assumption.

Following the 4 tips provided will help you to vibrationally align your subconscious thoughts with your desired reality. As Neville Goddard said “once you change your conception of yourself, you will automatically change the world in which you live in”.
